AtomOS documentation

AtomOS is Elemento's Linux-native virtualization platform. It installs compute, storage, and management services on a supported Linux host (typically AlmaLinux 9), using KVM, QEMU, and libvirt underneath.

AtomOS runs virtual machines and storage on your hosts. Electros is the centralized control plane used to inventory those hosts, provision VMs, and operate infrastructure across providers. The optional AtomOS GUI is a locally hosted management UI on the host — distinct from both Electros and Cockpit.

Documentation revision 2026-10-25

Package versions: atomos-cli --version on each host. Capability maturity: feature availability. Canonical docs host: docs.atomoslinux.cloud/docs.

Quick start

  1. Check hardware and OS support.
  2. Follow the quick start or install guide.
  3. Register the host in Electros (or use AtomOS GUI).
  4. Configure networking and storage, then create a first VM.
bash
curl -fsSL https://repo.elemento.cloud/get-atomos.sh -o /tmp/get-atomos.sh
# Review the script, then:
sudo bash /tmp/get-atomos.sh
sudo atomos-cli --install full on-prem

Trust boundary

Downloading and executing installer scripts grants root-level changes to the host. Prefer download-then-review-then-execute. Ensure BMC/IPMI or console access before changing bridges or primary NICs.
